A Journey to Health

Updated: May 16, 2019

Let's talk about my Journey to Health. Find out how my passion for natural health started. Through many of my own body's struggles, I eventually came into the natural health field. Now health is my passion and I hope to help you along on your journey as well.

Early Childhood

This post will show my age and I’m ok with that. Yes, the body has aged but the soul and spirit are soaring with the passing of years. The beginning of my journey to health began as a child. I was a sickly child with a perpetual stomach ache. I now know these stomach aches came from my food sensitivities. But as a child of the 60's the concept of food allergies was pretty foreign. A glass of milk was present at every meal and gluten was always the main ingredient. Looking back it's hard to believe we never connected the dots, but hindsight is 20/20.

After College

Stomach aches were my normal and life just kept moving. Sometimes we ignore our body's cries until something worse happens that really makes us listen. Fast forward to my 20’s where I had to get major surgery. The doctors had discovered an infection on my female organs, but they, unfortunately, found out too late. Scar tissue has developed and had to be removed with surgery. That surgery required many rounds of antibiotics and my already sensitive body did not handle that well. My body continued to feel worse.

Turning to Traditional Doctors

After the surgery and for many years after I dealt with horrible exhaustion, as well as feelings of depression and nervousness. I knew I needed help so I turned to the conventional doctors. Of course, the doctors gave me antidepressants as a bandaid for my problems. But they never looked deeper into the root causes of my ailments. The antidepressants masked my feelings of depression and anxiety but they also left me feeling numb. I knew this wasn't the way I wanted to live, but at the time I didn't know there were other options.

The Turning Point to Present Day

Then came a turning point in my journey to health. A new health food store and cafe opened up in my hometown. My curiosity was peaked and I went in to explore. The young girl working there was so sweet, we began talking all about my health struggles. She said it sounded like I had candida and recommended a book called The Yeast Connection by William G. Crook. I read it from cover to cover in 2 days, it was as if the author knew me personally and was describing all of my symptoms. I immediately started the diet and supplement regimen it recommended and I finally started to find relief. The exhaustion and emotion issues I had been struggling with for so long began to fade away like a bad dream.

Hence my journey began and I became fast friends with the young women who owned this health food store. We would get together for healthy dinners and fun chats about natural health. After a few months, she told me she was going to sell her store. She then went on to ask if I was interested in buying it. Without hesitating I said yes! I had a good friend at the time who also was loving the health food store and we bought it together. This store became ours and we worked hard and studied hard so that we could help others learn about the supplements we sold. I ran the store for a little over 2 years until I got married to my husband and sold it to move to Rochester and start our family.

After we got married we had our two children and as I raised them I continued my health education and began to study Iridology. I also continued to sell Nature's Sunshine Products out of my home and connected with other Nature's Sunshine Members. I continued with iridology for many years until I found out about Biofeedback.

A man reached out to me who had been selling Biofeedback machines to local holistic health practitioners. At first, I was skeptical, I understood iridology and didn't think I needed anything else. I'm so glad he was persistent and I finally let him come show me the device. After a year of him coming once a month to work with my clients, I decided to purchase the device and use it myself. I have since stopped doing iridology now use this device exclusively.

My journey to health was not always easy but I believe the challenges brought me to my passion. If it wasn't for my food sensitivities, my issues with candida, or my season of anxiety and depression, I don't know if I would have ever looked deeper. It was my health issues that made me investigate past the bandaids traditional doctors offered and helped me look deeper into root causes. Now I'm able to help others do the same thing and I'm so thankful for that.
